I’m playing a solo show on April 16th at The Go Bar in Athens, GA with Pholksinger Josh. His new album “Watermelon Mountain” (which was recorded here at Gypsy Farm) will also be released that night. Until the Humms return, you can catch Jacky in Timmy Tumble’s new band “the Tumblers” (their new album “Oh those Wild, Wild Wednesdays” is fantastic!) and Dave in his band “Poncho Magic”. Stay calm and think.

Zeke releases Free Folk/Country EP

Zeke Sayer

For my mother’s birthday this past January, I thought it would a lovely gift to record an EP, solely for her birthday. Among these songs that we love so much (and my parents grew up on) include numbers from The Carter Family, Hank Williams, and Elizabeth Cotten. As an included special threat for my mother, I recorded the entire EP with my very first guitar from childhood (with the original strings I learned on if you can believe that!) using my first Microphone, ran through my first 4 track tape recorder. The picking style is one that I inherited from my Father, Clem who he got from Merle Travis and Jimmie Rodgers. Though my father had heard my “Lemonland” record, these recordings where the last of me he got to hear before his passing in February and I’m so thankful for most things working out the way they did. He and I shared an unbreakable love for music and had planned to record together, but as they say “You know how plans work out..”

The free 7 song EP can be downloaded in WAV format from this link:

Hello Folks

Clem and Janice Sayer

I would like to thank everyone for their condolences on the passing of my Father. In a strange way, it’s not a loss but a spiritual growth (in an attempt to understand what people are just not suppose to understand). If you’re just now hearing of this, Clem Sayer passed away on February 15th at 5:30am, warm and asleep beside my mother, at our home in the Shoal Creek Music Park, NOT at HC Hospital (as the papers said.)   I was the seventh son born to Clem and we both shared an addicting passion for music of all sounds and shapes. Clem was born in 1938 and managed to do more than anyone could ever hope to accomplish.

Plucking his strings for the better part of 50 years, He re-opened The Shoal Creek County Music Park in 1989 and managed it for almost 22 years. In 2007 he was inducted into the Atlanta Country Music Hall of Fame for his work in helping preserve the traditional Bluegrass/Western/Hillbilly music in GA.

I will be taking some time away from The Humms to pick up where dad left off at the Music Park. It was his pride and joy to be able to supply folks with good music off the banks of Shoal Creek and I wouldn’t want to let what he’s worked so hard for slip away. The Clem Sayer Memorial Bluegrass Festival will be held this coming May 26th, 27th and 28th in Lavonia, GA. For more info on the Park, I’ve set up this page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Clems-Shoal-Creek-Music-Park/191796227508085?sk=info

We’ll be seeing you shortly, thanks once again for all of your support.

- Zeke
